2nd Test

Postby Davy Godiva » Mon Nov 27, 2006 10:59 pm

If rumours are to be believed then we will play 2 spinners in the next test, if so who would you drop?
Personally i would have to say Harmison, and not only because his arse went in the 1st test, but because i think he's vastly over-rated anyway......fair do's he aint bowled much but then again neither had McGrath.....and he took 6 for 50!
Harmison just aint that good.......yeah he took a few wickets in the Windies but then again he was basically bowling on crazy paving out there....and i think i could knock a few over bowling on them pitches...... [smilie=icon_lol.gif]

How the fuck he was ever rated world number 1 i dont know..... [hmmm.gif]

The only way we were going to retain the Ashes was to play 11 batsmen, forget the bowling and play for five draws. Christ I doubt we could have done much worse with the likes of Cook and Bell throwing underarm.

Our bowlers need to perform to their very best and I just can't see it happening... or at least not until too late in the series.

[hmmm.gif] Might be Harmy's best chance of bowling a decent over.
Lets face it, even he'd struggle to bowl a six foot wide bowling underarm......

I'd drop Anderson, as bad as Harmison is playing he is still more than capable of delivering a cracking ball or two, and if the batsman isn't expecting it, it'll make it harder for him to deal with.

[smilie=icon_lol.gif] With Harmy bowling, a decent ball is the last thing they'll be expecting....

Not sure that true anymore. Historically then yes the pitchs there have been spin friendly but this season the quicks have taken more wickets than normal. Interesting to see that the Aussies are only going with one spinner when generally they go with two there.

Having said all that we need to take wickets and only Flintoff looks like doing this so far. Monty has to play but dont be suprised to see him replace Giles. Anderson might also get dropped for Mahmood.

I'd start with Panesar (sp?), then bring Harmison on as a substitute about three-quarters the way through the game. I'd also use a wider bat.

I'm not sure if you still are. I know that quite a few years ago a team needed about 4 or 6 off the last ball of the match. The bowler ran up and just bowled underarm so he couldn't hit it. They might have changed the rules after that but I don't know! I assume as long as you keep your arm straight and it bounces no more than twice, it's perfectly legal!

Some poor sod lobbed out of the ground at Adelaide for daring to say "come on Steve son" at Harmisons "i'm shit and need more practice" training session......miserable wankers, not as if he was having a pop, merely trying to show some support.... [smilie=icon_rolleyes.gif]
If you cant even offer support after paying fuck knows how much to follow your team then whats the point..... [smilie=icon_mad.gif]

Madness playing the same 11! McGrath is in but hopefully he'll break down and leave them with just 3 bowlers.

At least we won the toss though. Need to make the most of it now...

Good score so far but its imperative that Collingwood and Pieterson don't get out early tomorrow like they did on the morning of day five of the first test. The first session should be crucial.
