can't delete or rename folders

Postby plastic scouser » Fri May 07, 2010 2:30 pm

alright IT monkeys....

I've got a couple of folders that I wanna delete (or atleast rename) but every time I try it tells me it can't.

If I try & rename the folder, I keep getting told I need permission, so I continue, but then it just offers me the option of "try again"......then tells me I need permission etc. etc.

If I try & delete the folder, it tells me I can't: "The action can't be completed because the folder is open in another program"

It clearly is not open anywhere else.

I'm on Vista  The folders only ever contained word docs & excel sheets.

Fucking annoying. Any ideas on how to solve it?
......waiting for the great leap forwards [smilie=icon_paper.gif]

Download this http://download.sysinternals.com/Files/ ... sSuite.zip

Unpack it somewhere

open a dos box and cd into the unpacked directory

type 'procexp'

use find menu item on the files you think are locked.

it will show what process is using them

come back with the results...

Des....thanks for your input....

....not needed however as after completing some windows updates & re-starting, I had no further problems deleting/renaming said folders. Cheers anyway.

Boss...thanks for your input....

A perfectly good approach to Windows -whack it with a big stick.
