I wonder what the odds are on.....

Postby king chillout » Wed Jul 10, 2013 9:47 pm

....there being a below 1000 crowd for a City "home" league game ?

Judging by some of the piss poor away followings at the Ricoh last season and my thoughts on the City "home" fans only being in their hundreds I'd like to put a fiver on it.

I agree with Dogga - crowds will drop massively but not below that level. Will be interested to see what size crowds we get especially with quite a few games on a Sunday.

Add in the fact that there are a lot less trains etc and I cant see me doing them either. Will the club be offering season tickets at all? Not going to be getting one just interested if they are available.

As much as I hate to agree with TF his supposed assertion that after two or three games fans will start heading back (especially if we make a decent start) is my fear too. There are some that just won't be able to say no once the action kicks off.

Of course that will happen, there's barely 10 people turn up at these protests, what makes them think they're suddenly going to get 8-10k just stay away from the football on a Saturday. And even if no one turned up I really don't think it would deter SISU, they seem hell bent on whatever it is they're playing at and money doesn't seem a concern at the minute.

I went and saw the 'demonstration' at the Cobblers - there were somewhere in the region of 9-11 people there - it was hard to tell...

Not exactly indicative of thousands of people supposedly turning their backs on CCFC forever is it?

I agree, it's the same with other things too, the Coventry United and Not one penny more facebook pages have only got about 1000 people. And the massive CET petition that you could hardly miss only has 11k signatures out of a city of 300k and a catchment area of 500k? 1m? Then the protests mainly look stupid even that ultra embarrassing Joy Sepella statue protest thing only got about 30 by the looks of the pictures. I'm not even having a pop at any of them, I just don't think there's the appetite for revolution that's being made out.

A lot of City fans couldn't be arsed to travel within Coventry to see City ! I believe that the trip to Northampton will finish the remaining hardy souls off.

A good proportion of City fans won't go because they are boycotting, but because they will find the travelling too much in terms of cost and time.

I've talked to many City fans over the last few weeks and I've yet to meet any ones who go to games say there is even the remotest chance they will go to Northampton. A few of them are die-hard season ticket holders !

I also believe that the team this year will be poor and struggle to get results. Lose the first three or four games and who will want to travel to a morgue in Northampton to watch yet another stuffing ?

But what people say and what people end up doing aren't always the same. But I do kind of agree with what you say about the first few games but probably not to the degree you suggest. If we have a strong start people will quickly forget or grudgingly go saying fuck SISU they won't stop them supporting the team, if we do shit then they will drop but that happened for years at the ricoh anyway.

There will be some fans for who Northampton is more convenient than the Ricoh. Those from London for one.

so I see ACL are thinking of suing NTFC for basically nicking 'their customer'.

This is the same ACL who don't need City at the Ricoh...they've got 'other revenue streams' & plenty of customers
queuing up to use the place, remember....

Fair play to Northampton for their response "we will not be bullied or threatened"

Look at the the demographics of the home crowd. The majority are middle-aged or later and having been watching City for donkey's years. I don't think they will just up sticks to NTFC.

The younger mob will probably go, because they act as groups with their mates.

I'm not going on principle and I expect that after a couple of months, I won't miss it either. The away-day is always a better day than at home, wherever that might be.

It's cheaper to go to Northampton than it is to park in the Ricoh car park. Fuck off and die ACL, you desperate bunch of ****.

It seems like a SISU inspired tactic - make 'em spend money and time on small technicalities until they decide it's not worth the hassle.

So let's say NTFC are getting £100k-ish p.a for the stadium. If ACL bring this action (which I don't understand frankly) they're going to have to get the lawyers to look at it and defend it, which doesn't come cheap. The other option is to decide "sod this for a game of soldiers" and pull out of the deal with Otium, which will bring financial penalties for breaking the contract. The whole thing could end up costing them money instead of making them it.

But of the two I'd go for the fight the legal writ option, as there's the chance of recouping the costs if they win, and as I've said above I don't understand why ACL believe they have some sort of claim against NTFC.

There is no law saying you can't rent multiple premises, so really the only thing I think they can do is keep on invoicing Otium for the stadium rent and continually claiming for it through the courts. ACL don't get ticket revenue so they can't sue for that, or for lost revenue for the casino etc as that isn't their business.

At best I can only imagine they might be sued by Compass over lost earnings from the F&B contract, but even then I think any claim against NT is flimsy.

Not a good move by ACL I reckon - they will lose a lot of goodwill from supporters of other clubs over this who won't be au fait with the entire debacle.
